totally stupid gambling - 18-addict - 29-04-2011

last year, my mum gave me thousands of pound as a kind of "coming of age" present basically intended to get a car. I've gambled all of this away and feel like a total failure. Im an intelligent lad, and got an interview at oxford uni but all i can ever think about is blackjack and gambling in general. Its ruined my life and i cant explain it to others. Any help would be much appreciated

This is a disease that can lead to despair and some very dark places.
Life is much more than that. Make the trade off now.
Happiness vs Misery
Inhindsight you will see this was probably the easiest decision you ever got to make.
Following worked for me
1.Trust some else with my money
2.Buy a house
3.Saw tears from a loved one and realized what is more important
4.Been to GA meeting

Hi.
Firstly may I say that there is hope for you. That is obvious as you have made the first move and come on this site asking for help.

If that means you have admitted that gambling has you licked. You are powerless over it, and you genuinely want help to give gambling the boot - forever, then read on....

I must emphasis that most compulsive gamblers agree that you cannot just give up for a while. It is a lifetime commitment that we tackle one day at a time. To help us do that we attend GA meetings. Some go once a week, and some go more often. There are no rules, just people sharing their own experiences of what has worked for them, and what wakes up the demon and tries to lure them back into that very unpleasant life. It works for those who really want it to.

Myself, I invest 3 hours a week going to a meeting and by doing so save about 30 hours a week that I used to spend gambling.

So far it has worked and today is another day I will not gamble.

The best advice anyone can give you is attend AT LEAST 1 meeting a week and stop gambling.
