time to face it - Stevenvek - 13-06-2011

Hi all,

After 20 years of compulsive reckless gambling its finally hit me... i need to stop....

didnt matter before as i was living with my mother after the death of my father so had nothing to lose really, but now have moved in with my gf and her 10 y/o daughter so i now have responsibilities

slots are my vice, both online and in bookies

i bet on horses and football coupons too, but only a small amount a week, so i think thats under control

the slots tho, once i start i cant stop , so thats what i need to stop....

read a few horror stories on here so dont want to end up in the position that those unfortunate people were...

have taken the first step of closing down all my online accounts so im on the right road i think...
any advice would be appreciated

thanks <!-- sSmile --><img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/icon_e_smile.gif" alt="Smile" title="Smile" /><!-- sSmile -->

Hi freezerboy,

Thankyou for your post.

The next step is to attend a Gamblers Anonymous (GA) meeting. You can find your closest one by clicking on the "meetings" tab on the "home" page and then clicking on Town/City to find somewhere close to you. You will meet REAL people who have real lives which have been adversely affected by gambling. They will be able to guide you onto the road to recovery. Attendance at GA meetings is, in my humble opinion, essential for anyone who wishes to seriously address the issues that gambling compulsively brings.

Please do log back on and let the forum know how you found the experience of attending your first GA meeting.

Yours in GA unity

'Poster' David

Hi,
Thanks for your replies, appreciated greatly.... <!-- sSmile --><img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/icon_e_smile.gif" alt="Smile" title="Smile" /><!-- sSmile -->

Am doing well so far regarding slots, not played any for over a week now, doing other things such as playing darts and going cycling have given me other things to focus on.....

had a little bet on a race at Royal ascot, few quid each way, then left as soon as the race was over, didnt even go near the dreaded slots, so hopefully thats a good sign....

i understand and appreciate your concern,Smartie, about me doing this, but i do genuinely believe my problem is slots, not sports betting, as i only do that at weekends, its limited and i only take in the amount im betting with,nothing more....

thanks again for reading and replying, will keep posting updates .... <!-- sBig Grin --><img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/icon_e_biggrin.gif" alt="Big Grin" title="Very Happy" /><!-- sBig Grin -->
