You write:
'my question is this, how much more help can sitting in a room with other addicts be. if i dont go, am i more likely to gamble again.'
My question to you is:
'What have you possibly got to lose by attending a G.A. meeting?'
You state that 'i want to stop and i want to do every thing i can to quit.'
Then the very least you can do is try a G.A. meeting- to be fair to yourself and your partner- and in my opinion, to give yourself the best chance of quitting- spend an hour or two listening to people who are successfully beating the same addiction as you.
