Do I need to attend meetings?
#1
I have been gambling for a year abouts, my husband has known for a few months. I keep telling him I will stop, but I suppose I cant. My husband doesnt know what to say to me, just,'I will end up leaving you'.
I really hate group meetings and am also diagnosed as having Bipolar Disorder.
What can I do to help myself? Is it absolutely nessecary to attend meetings? I feel so guilty and sorry for what I am doing, but feel I have little control over it. Any suggestions please? Thanks for reading.

Hi Jostudio

No, you do not have to attend meetings. however this addiction is very hard to beat by yourself. GA meetings are run & attended by fellow gamblers. They attend the meetings because of all the help & support & knowledge available within the fellowship. They WANT to stop gambling!
The benefits far outway any issues u may have re the meetings. No one is put under any pressure. They know all about you...after all they ( we ) have done everything you have done...maybe more. You will never be judged.
I have heard stories of people who have stopped gambling without any aid. But those stories are very rare. More often you hear of the people who tried to do it alone, and failed.
Try a meeting. We don't bite. <!-- s:lol: --><img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/icon_lol.gif" alt=":lol:" title="Laughing" /><!-- s:lol: -->
