Hi I feel exactly the same as you its mainly bingo I go on too online and its got the better of me for nearly 2 years. I'm 27 and i've got an 18 month old son and I don't want to lose time with him for some stupid habit. I gambled tonight and lost but I deposit small amounts too. I came on here crying and distressed to look for help and went on the 24 hour chat and talked to some really nice people who know what i'm going through. I'm now really determined to stop i'm going to download a gambling blocker maybe thats an idea for you too. If ever you need to chat or you get the urge to gamble come on the chat on here it really helps and I was really shy and embarressed at first. I hope i've helped you take care my user name is nats82 xxx
Hi selfishgambler

Get yourself along to a GA meeting if you can.
While you may not be classified as a compulsive gambler, I feel that if you are able to see how this addcition can affect you, it may help you stop. You would be welcome to go along. The stories you will hear are real. AND you will be hearing those stories from the people that are affected by this gambling addiction.
Ask questions. Be honest & open minded. Don't judge!...Remember,you too could easily head down that path! <!-- s:o --><img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/icon_e_surprised.gif" alt=":o" title="Surprised" /><!-- s:o -->

Me personally...6 credit cards maxxed out, house triple mortgaged, AND I stole from my sister.
I am 52 years of age & own NOTHING! AND owe PLENTY! I will never be able to pay back what I owe.

You have the chance to stop now before it really gets hold of you.
Find a hobby. Do some volunteer work. Read a book. ANYTHING BUT GAMBLING!

Best wishes
Roy ( 12 months gamble free)
Thank you for your replies x
this is the first time iv been back to the GA site, as i felt so ashamed of reading the post iv done.

unfortunatly for me iv failed, iv been on the sites again. iv wagereed about double that since being last being on here. its a dangereous game and im really scared of it getting a real hold on me

I really dont know how to stop ( though i will try the gambling blocker , thankyou for that tip)

It really is ridiculous. Gambling is a very selfish and lonely act, and yet im not selfish at all, id do anything for anyone(within reason) give friends/family my last penny if thhey needed it. Infact my husband says people walk over me

which leads me to say he hasnt a clue about this, he would 100% leave me if he knew.
Hi Selfish Gambler,

Its is always a struggle to keep temptation at bay. I am a compulsive gambler and have only been going to GA Meetings for the last 3 weeks, of which i have been able to refrain from Gambling for 18 days.

I to was hooked on the on-line casino sites as well as fruit machines in the pubs etc, After going to GA, i was informed of gambling blocking software, you can purchase a blocker for any on line betting sites that is irriversable once downloaded. At first it was very frustrating as i tried to get back on but after just a few days you quickly realise that there is no point even trying and the temptation starts to fade.

This alongside my attendance to the GA Meetings has so far helped me come to terms with my illness, although i am powerless over gambling and will have my illness for the rest of my life, i now wake up in the morning for the first time in years after having a trouble free sleep and look forward to another gambling free day.

Good luck and remember you are not alone.
