I am posting this because people on here know what i am going through !

Nobody knows i am a gambler have been for nearly 30 years !!

I am going to win this one - Not gambled for 13 days, I am not going to meetings I am going to win this on my own !!

Thanks for listening !!
Hi, I also gambled for around 30 years and the gambling only ever got worse never better! I tried also to control gambling on my own and it never ever did work, I think the longest abstinence I ever had was around 5 months and then went back with much worse results. I tried different counselling services and got people to hold my cards etc. I was in and out of the GA programe also but it wasn't until I finally admitted that gambling had me beat and I had no where else to go that I finally got back into GA and started working the 12 step program that I have now had abstinence for 10 years.
I wish you well in your recovery but if you need GA they are always there with welcoming arms and hope.
I to myself have had a problem with gambling for the past 5 years. It makes me so ashamed of myself but what is done is done.I have recently told my husband and family and admitted to myself that i am addicted to online gambling which im hoping is the first step.

You said that you have not gambled for 13 days..what an acheivement and i mean it.Well done and keep it up

I wish you all the luck in the world x
April 1st last time I had bet - so still going at the moment

Am i heading for a fall by not taking pro advice ? ( not in to meeting )

any advice would help ?

thanks for listening again !!

The chances of you remaining gamble free will not be in your favour if you try to do this alone.

I have only been attending GA for 14 months, but in that time I have heard of only ONE instance where someone has remained gamble free by doing it alone.

I think you have to accept the fact that this addiction is hard to beat. It can/will gradually wear you down. With all the good intentions in the world I honestly feel that you are still doing yourself a disservice.

If you are not keen on a GA meeting, there are online & telephone counselling services available to you in the UK. Try them. You have nothing to lose.

Best wishes
I have heard YOUR story lots of times, people who try to go it alone. Its very hard to beat gambling with GA help but it so much harder on your own. But I truly wish you well because I know the misery that gambling causes and its horrible. You have done well staying free from gambling this far so keep fighting and always try to remind yourself of how terrible you felt when you decided you needed to stop....... that might give you a little bit of strength if you have gambling urges in future. I hope you are successful with your war against this nasty evil addiction.
But please please think about giving GAMBLERS ANONYMOUS a wee try. The people in GA rooms are just friends you haven't met yet. They will always offer you the hand of friendship and really make you feel welcome. And it just might be that little bit of extra help that will keep you away from the madness and help you have a better life.

I wish you well, I have been in GA almost a year now and I love it. I dont even think about gambling today.

Thanks for all your comments , they keep me going any advice welcome & its good to talk to someone about this if its only on this forum

I am still going strong 21 days now not gambled !!

I am taking a day at a time, what I am doing is thinking if I gamble I have just lost 21 days & lose all my money in the end as we always do, I will want to give up but its back to day 1 !!
I hope you understand that

I am turning the addiction around by telling myself I am not going to gamble & being addicted to saying no - Sounds stupid but its working & hopefully will carry on working
My young daughter is married to a gambler. They have been together nearly 4 years. He takes risks with his daughters life and that of his wife as well as his own. This addiction totally by passes love and destroys dreams of happiness. His wife is 7 months pregnant and loves him. He has yet again lied, spent money they had been saving and it goes on. I watched her shout, ask him for the truth, cry her heart out.......I was so afraid she would begin early labour. His 2 year old daughter loves him to bits and yet he continues to lie and take risks with their lives and at this rate she will not have a father to grow up with or a mother and father who live together. And yet it could be so different. Its hard for you who write but do you KNOW HOW HURTFUL it is for those around you watching and dealing with the betrayal of giving your word and BREAKING IT. BREAKING DREAMS OF HAPPINESS. The reality is not gambling with MONEY it is gambling with the LIVES of THOSE YOU LOVE and who LOVE you. NOT for YOURSAKES but those who you love do what is necessary to give it up !
Hi mother

Your words are so true. I am a Compulsive Gambler, off the punt for 14 months so far.

Money problems are the least of our problems. We do hurt the ones we love, & love us.

Re your son-in-law, has he sought help for his problem? Is he aware he has a problem?
If he is in denial, there will be little you or anyone else can do.

Your daughter will need your support as you are aware. Life with a gambler is not something I would wish on anyone.

Best wishes
Thanks Big Dave (Eastcote/Uxbridge) - For your negative post !!
Can't give up unless you got to GA meeting - what a load of rubbish so it's a fact is it

I have never sat down & said to myself I want to give up !!

The reason i am on this site is nobody knows I gamble so its good to talk to people who are going through same thing !!

Anyway still going strong going into my 4th week
