CASINO BAN?
#1
Hiya, I’m after some advise really. My son is a compulsive gambler but has up until now restricted his addiction to online sites. However, he’s now looking at going to casinos in the area. My question is; when I used to work in the brewery trade is was against the law to serve anyone who we thought was already intoxicated. Does the same apply to Casinos? ie., if they think he’s a compulsive gambler will they ban him & if so can I step in now & get him banned from a Casino in advance, on these grounds.

Worried Parent!!

Your son can self exclude himself but you cannot go along and ban him!! Instead of thinking that you can run around preventing him from doing what hurts him most..

Instead you need to sit him down and talk to him about others experiences. I used to go to the Casino and leave cash in the Car thinking "i wont spend that" many hours later leaving without cash in the bank, without cash in the card, without cash in the car and barely enough fuel to drive home.

Did that stop me going?? No...but turning my life to a higher power did.

So show him GA, if he wants to change then he will for himself and in that he will ask your help.

Dear WORRIEDPARENT,

Your question is a delicate one. Gamblers Anonymous has no opinion on any outside issues and neither endorses nor opposes any causes. Our primary purpose is to stop our gambling and help other compulsive gamblers to do the same.I think that if your son self excludes himself, then the gambling establishment he has self excluded himself from, should turn him away should he subsequently attempt to gamble at their place of business. Please note that it is your son who must make the self exclusion application. You may accompany him, if he chooses to accept your helpful offer.

The above may not be exactly what you wanted to hear, but I hope it clarifies the position.

The fellowship of "GamAnon" may be able to help you further. Their website is http://www.gamanon.org.uk Please visit the site for further information on who they are and what they do. You would be most welcome to attend a real, face to face, GamAnon meeting and i'm sure they could be of assistance to you in your situation.

Yours in GA unity
