How do I stop?
#2
Hi Mike

You have made the first step...admitting you have a problem and asking for help.
We all know that is not easy to do. Well done.

The first thing you need to do is find your nearest GA meeting. You will benefit greatly from the support & knowledge that the GA members have.

Have you someone you can hand your finances over to for a short period? Generally 6 to 12 months is advisable. This will take some of the temptation away from you.
Credit cards? Tear them up & cancel the accounts. Yes you will still have to pay the debts, but if you can no longer draw any money on them...temptation again will be lessened.

Keep yourself busy. Find a hobby or two. If you are a sportsperson who has some fame, how about spending some time working/aiding charity organisations? This will improve your feeling of self worth as well as giving back to the community. Do you enjoy reading? Gardening etc....
There are so many things that we gamblers have forgot existed. They are all free...
Which is great for us because most of us are skint.

One of the most important things to remember is that whatever you decide to do with your time...you must enjoy it, otherwise you will get bored and then start thinking about gambling again.

Best wishes
Roy
